Local Students Embarks on Weststar Aviation Services Intership Program

Miri, 23rd May 2017 - Weststar Aviation Services, the leading oil and gas transportation services provider in South East Asia presented the Induction Training Certificate to successful interns that have completed their induction course today. Interns Bryan Luhat, Fleacer Apoi Lawai Sigau, Jason Embam Jacob and Andrea Patira Anak Charlie are attached with Weststar Aviation Services Miri Operations Engineering department. During their attachment, these bright young undergraduates are given an insight of the working culture of Weststar Aviation Services and a chance to learn and explore some of the opportunities available in the industry, whilst at the same time building their skills and confidence.

“Internship programs are part of Weststar Aviation Services strategy of investing in human resources, not only within the company but also with the community we operate in especially in Miri. That being said, I am pleased to share that over 50% of our employees in our Miri Base are Sarawakians. Our internship program supports the know-how transfer from our experts towards the young. As of 2017, more than 750 graduates of mid and high education have undertaken the Internship program with our company, with the outstanding ones having begun their careers with Weststar Aviation Services”, stated VADM Datuk Jamil Osman, Domestic Operations General Manager of Weststar Aviation Services.

We’ve had interns that are coming from profile high institutions and universities all across Malaysia and we believe that sustaining a long-term workforce is important to ensure that our company is ever ready for expansion. Also, to give the next generation of the skilled workforce a hands-on experience at working before they embark and build on their careers in diverse business areas upon graduation” he added.

Recognising the needs for a strengthened human capital in Sarawak, Weststar Aviation Services currently embarking on an initiative to elevate the socio-economic state in Miri by creating new job opportunities, introducing new technologies and also improving the skills and performance of the local workers that will enable Sarawak’s local talent to compete effectively on the global stage. Weststar Aviation Services currently employs over 50 professional Sarawakians working as pilots, engineers, ground staff as well as senior management in the organization and placed at its operations all over South East Asia.
